The Magic of the Upper Deck
Climb to the upper platform — whether on foot, by tram, or by metro — and get ready to hold your breath. From up there, the Douro River snakes toward the Atlantic flanked by the colorful buildings of the Ribeiras, the rabelo boats swaying on the water, and beyond them, the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia where the famous Port wine rests.
Sunset from this spot is simply hypnotic. The sun paints gold and orange tones across the facades of the old town — a UNESCO World Heritage site — while the iron bridge blends into the landscape as if it had always been there.
